KIckin'

This morning I was lying in bed waiting for my alarm to ring and slid closer to my beloved and put my hand on her belly. She happens to be six months pregnant. Suddenly I felt the baby kick my hand. I felt this unbelieveable connection to that being inside her womb, to life, to the process of being born.

What a sweet dream. I will once again be a father. Once again given the opportunity to assist another human being on their journey to becoming.

Welcome home. Nice to meet you.

From your beloved...
I was half-awake yesterday morning as my beloved snuggled behind me in that familiar, fuzzy place that I love. His hand slipped around my growing belly. All of the sudden, the was a kick. The three of us shuddered. Whoa! Did you feel that? The baby kicked several more times for good measure. It felt like we were having a silent conversation with the baby. I felt incredibly connected to our little cocooned pod. We snuggled in deeper.

Some people say that a child pushes a couple apart and changes your relationship. My experience has been the opposite. Being pregnant has brought us closer together as we marvel at what we have created, at the changes in my body. I am so grateful for the kicks and changes and miracles in my life.

St. Valentines Day

I find it odd that we pick a day in February to celebrate the heart, the emotion of Love, the honoring of those we love. What apparently morphed from some racy pagan festivity into a more buttoned down Christian celebration has now become synonymous with the greeting card maker Hallmark. Hmmm. Regardless of this days origins it has been firmly established in the American psyche (not sure about other countries). Forgetting this day for your beloved, your kids, maybe even your pets, is tantamount to being un-loving. A slouch in the Love department. Nobody wants to be that. What about honoring yourself on this day? Congratulating yourself for making it this far on your journey? And along the way how much love was expressed? How open was your heart as you navigated relationships and all the challenges relationships can reveal? On my late afternoon walk with my two dogs back home these were the thoughts running round my head. And checking in with my heart it felt a bit sad....

Actually, Age Isn’t Just a Number

It’s a mindset.  And one that until you reach certain milestones around age, you really don’t think too much about it.  Here are some obvious milestones: Puberty. Getting your driver’s permit at 16. Being able to vote in your first election at 18. Legally able to drink at 21. Then the next couple milestones might be around 30 or 40.  The realization sinks in that you’re not 25 anymore. A deep dive into middle age is on deck. ******* I have felt youthful my entire life.  And by good genetics or a Peter Pan outlook on life I never really felt my age. Turning 50 was no big deal.  Turning 60 also didn’t feel that momentous. I did have a total knee replacement that year and that was an indication that some things with my body were worn out.  But that was a game changing operation allowing me to continue my very active lifestyle pain free. But this past year being 65 has fucked with my head. I see the manifestations of aging showing up on my body. Hair loss. Muscle loss. Whi...

Mindset Like a Dog

This morning after getting the kids off to school I decided to take my dogs for a longer than usual hike on our local mountain. I took a couple big swigs of water, layered up, added hat and gloves, and headed out the gate. The dogs knew what was up and bounced around me, excited and eager for whatever lay ahead. Yet every time they see me putting on my boots it’s like they have never been walked before. Their excitement is fresh. Every day. How is it that they have no idea how long or short I am going to walk them, yet they are always down to walk? I never have to prod them out of their lethargy.  Rain, snow, or sun, they are ready.  Anytime. This got me to wondering what if I adopted this dog mindset? What exactly would that feel like? ******* Recently I’ve felt flat. Not super inspired.  I’m attempting to increase my client base as a Mindset Coach and honestly renovating a 200-year-old house like in my former life feels markedly easier than landing new clients.   It’s the...
